About us
Independent Guides to Qingdao’s Ocean Realm
We are a small team of Qingdao-based travelers and writers who lose count of how many times we have walked the undersea tunnel — and we built this site to share everything we wish we had known before our first visit.

Who we are
QingdaoUnderwaterWorld.com is an independent visitor guide — not the official website of the aquarium, and not a faceless tour reseller. We are editors, photographers and longtime Qingdao residents who fell for this place the way most visitors do: standing under the glass arch of the tunnel as a sandbar shark crossed overhead, realizing the city we thought we knew kept a whole second world behind Laiyang Road.
That first visit also taught us how confusing a one-way aquarium can be for an international traveler: show times hidden on a Chinese-language board, ticket options that bundle a cruise you did not know existed, crowds that arrive with the tour buses, and an exit on the opposite side of the road from where you came in. So we did what guidebook writers do — we went back, again and again, took notes, checked every timetable, and turned the confusion into the clear, honest guides you find on this site.
What makes our guides different
First-hand, always
Every hall, price table and show time on this site comes from a visit by our own team — the tunnel at opening, the mermaid show at noon, the freshwater hall at closing light.
Re-checked monthly
Hours, fares and show schedules change with the seasons. We re-verify the essentials every month and mark each guide with the date of the last check.
Honest by design
We publish the drawbacks next to the highlights — the one-way rule, the holiday crowds, the 17:00 cutoff — because your day is too short to waste on sugar-coating.
Reader-funded
When you book a ticket through our Trip.com partner links we earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you — and that is what keeps the guides free.
What you will find on this site
The site is built around one question: “what does a traveler need to know to have a perfect dive into Qingdao Underwater World?” Everything else follows from it.
- Tickets & combos, decoded — the combo pass with the pier cruise, the leisure card and the city day tours compared in plain English.
- Hall-by-hall guides — the Dream Jellyfish Palace, Seal House, Marine Life and Whale halls, the undersea tunnel and the Freshwater Life Hall, each with timing and photo tips.
- Itineraries around the shows — hour-by-hour plans that respect the one-way route, the 17:00 admission cutoff and the Ocean Theater schedule.
- Getting there from anywhere — Metro Line 3, the Lu Xun Park bus stops, taxis from the railway station and where to park on busy weekends.
- The shorefront beyond the tanks — the First Bathing Beach, Lu Xun Park, Zhanqiao Pier and the seafood streets that make the trip a full day.
- Real traveler reviews — verified Trip.com reviews quoted honestly, both the raves and the practical warnings.
How each guide is made
- Step 1 — Visit it. An editor walks the full one-way route, notes timings, show schedules, photo spots and the corners actually worth lingering in.
- Step 2 — Verify it. Prices and hours are cross-checked against the aquarium’s official announcements, the ticket hotlines (+86-532-58617777 / +86-532-82892187) and live partner listings on Trip.com.
- Step 3 — Compare it. We read hundreds of recent traveler reviews and fold recurring warnings — holiday crowds, missed shows, the 17:00 cutoff — into the tips.
- Step 4 — Update it. Guides carry an “Updated” stamp when rules change; the essentials are re-checked monthly and fully rewritten each season.
Affiliate disclosure: This site is free and always will be. Booking links to Trip.com are affiliate links — if you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never influences what we recommend; we have happily told readers to skip paid add-ons when they were not worth it.
